‘ RAISON D'ETRE ’

The English translation for raison d’être is “the reason for being”. For Wooranna Park Primary School it signifies the philosophical understandings and beliefs that underpin the changes we have introduced into the school. To understand our school you need to understand our “Raison D’être.”

Wooranna Park Primary School believes that children are born with all of their senses ready to make meaning of their world; that they come to school with knowledge and experiences.  They are autonomous learners, ready to explore the world around them; and that an inter-disciplinary, authentic, negotiated and collaborative curriculum is essential to their development.

First developed in 2005, the Raison D’être has recently undergone some significant modifications as a result of staff reflection.  An introductory video has also been prepared to further clarify the school’s thinking. The video outlines our Raison D’être in the context of our aims as a teaching community and the nature of our school curriculum.
