This Challenge encourages children and students to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online. Since the Challenge first began in 2005, more than 3.5 million students have read over 54 million books.
Every Victorian child deserves the best start in life and reading plays a big part in that.
Through the Challenge, we’re encouraging our children to read as much as they can – to build literacy skills and spark a lifelong love of learning.
It’s great to see so many young Victorians get involved in this year’s Challenge.
For young readers, each year’s Challenge invites parents and carers to read 40 books with their child over the next six months. So mums and dads, and kids can share special moments together.
For students from Prep to Year 2, the Challenge is to read or experience 30 books.
For students in Years 3 to 10, the Challenge is to read 15 books. Waiting inside each book is adventure, love and heartbreak and lessons for life – tales we will remember forever.
We encourage you to visit the official Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Facebook page and join the community of participating parents and teachers. You can share stories, stay informed and celebrate your child’s journey through the Challenge.
Feel free to also review the list of books that are included in this challenge.
To electronically record books read at home please follow the below steps.
We hope to see lots of students partake in this fun reading adventure!
